Invisalign – the alternative to bracers
Orthodontic treatment for adults has come a long way in recent years. It used to be that, if you didn’t correct your tooth alignment during your younger years, you would end up with a crooked smile forever. Well, that’s not the case anymore!
We understand that getting braces as an adult can be a bit daunting, but with improvements in dental technology your options can include slimline metal braces, translucent braces or transparent aligners. Aria Dental’s Dr Alex Foo has delivered fantastic results with orthodontic treatments on many of our adult patients. He understands that a perfect smile does wonders for your self-esteem and can drastically improves their health and wellbeing.
Many of patients are surprised to learn that crooked teeth and a bad bite is often directly linked to gum and bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of tooth enamel, headaches, and jaw joint (TMJ/TMD) pain. A dentist led orthodontic treatment can help you with all these underlining problems while delivering you an excellent cosmetic result.
6 Benefits of orthodontic treatment as an Adult
- Improved personal appearance
- Improved self-esteem
- Improved teeth and gum health
- Improved bite
- Reduced jaw joint pain and stop headaches
- Reduced wear on teeth
Metal braces are the most common type of braces. Developed from a high-grade stainless steel, they are small in size, and designed to improve your comfort.
Clear braces are made from translucent material and are most popular with adults due to their cosmetic appeal. There are a few minor inconveniences to ceramic brackets. They are more fragile in design and discolouring can sometimes occur with the elastic ties between orthodontic visits.

How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, virtually invisible aligners that you need to change every two weeks until your teeth have moved into the correct position. Each set of aligners builds on the previous set’s work, so set by set they are straightening your teeth over the course of your treatment.
The aligners are made from a clear, medical grade, plastic so are virtually invisible. They look like a thin sports mouthguard and are tailored to fit the individual shape of your teeth and jaw. It is recommended you wear them for 20-22 hours per day to get the best results, but this means you can take them out for meals and when cleaning your teeth. They also give you the flexibility to take them out for family occasions or important client meetings at work.
What Invisalign treatments are available?
Invisalign has designed four different types of aligners to suit all patient needs. At Aria Dental, we offer:
Invisalign Comprehensive: This is the most effective option if you need major orthodontic work. The aligners should start to deliver the results you want to see in around 12 to 18 months.
Invisalign Lite: For minor correction to the six front teeth, Invisalign Lite can straighten your teeth in as little as six months.
Invisalign Express: Problems with the six front teeth can also be corrected with Invisalign Express. You can expect to see results in just three months.
Invisalign also have a specific version just for children.
Invisalign First: Designed for children, Invisalign First aligners help to prepare the teeth and jaw if our specialist orthodontist has identified potential orthodontic problems in your child. These aligners help to take a proactive approach to treatment and could help to reduce the extent of orthodontic work your child may require in their teenage years.
Invisalign aligners are also suitable for teens and we can include a blue dot wear indicator on each set of aligners as a reminder to wear them for the recommended 22 hours a day.
Benefits of Invisalign
Invisalign aligners are popular for many reasons.
They’re hygienic: Patients can keep on top of their oral hygiene, because you can remove the aligners when eating, brushing and flossing.
They’re virtually invisible: The fact Invisalign aligners are clear means most people don’t even notice you’re wearing them.
They fit in with your lifestyle: The removable aligners make it possible to carry on playing sport and musical instruments – just remove the aligners and carry on as normal!
They straighten teeth quickly: In many cases, Invisalign treatment can be much faster than traditional braces. Your orthodontist will be able to tell you more about how long your treatment is expected to last.
